Gugle report

Well, it’s time for me for another short report regarding this small project wich I started to love (don’t ask my why).

The number of visitors remained the same since gugle.ro has launched. But the number of queries (searches) has increased alot. And most important, the percent of returning visitors is around 45%. So no more mistake hits. Many of the hits came directlly to Gugle.ro becauze….well I don’t know why. It’s a mistery for mee to :). Maybe some of them didn’t noticed that they are on the “wrong” page and they remained with the impresion that this is the famous Google search engine that they heard about. Or maybe they like the ideea of an romanian spelling site. Anyway, for now this remains another mistery ready to be solved by Scooby Doo and his gang :).

Google pages

I’ve just find out that Google did it again :) and apparentlly, this is not new. Check out pages.google.com and tell me if this is not cool. U can create in a matter of minutes a simple but good looking web page. The number of formats and models is impresive and they look good also. I like the way u can work around and also the fact that u have 100Megs of space for your site, wich is preety much for a free online site builder.
Rumors were about Google offering some hosting (see also Gmail for your domain) and I think this is the first step on getting there. First the email, now the pages. Soon will come the hosting posibility and I can’t wait to see that happen :).

P.S. I wonder how SEO this pages are :)

El Dorado at Google…

I have seen many pictures and read many articles about the happy life inside Googleplex, but today I got sad a little bit. Not becauze of the this pictures that I’ve just seen, but becauze I wonder when will my Company in wich I work for, will give me (an to my colegues) at least half of the benefits that Google eployers have. I’m starting to believe that they don’t work there. From 11 pictures, only one is reprezenting a man working. The rest are playing, resting, discussing, swiming, eating and so on. Weird, no? :)
And why I don’t find or see any bad things said about life in Google plex or working at Google. It can’t be that perfect. It cand be so…..utopically (i think this is a new word invented by me :) ) perfect. It has to be at least one person who’s not happy with life at Google. The janitor for example or the peoples at the gates. Ya! The peoples from the gates. I think that I whould go insane to hear all the stuff about Googleplex and not be able to go past the gates. I know, even them are alowed to visit the Googleplex.
The quest for a sad face inside Googleplex or for a true story about non so happy peoples at Google has begun. If any of you out there knows a story like that, please make my day and tell it to me. It’s not nice for me, but make me happy and tell me that there are flaws and bad treatment at Google too, not only in the company I work for or any other company.

P.S. Do you really need a lifeguard and a lifeguard board for that tiny little smalish pool?

The World of Smartboards

Multi touch screenThis is really awsome. If I get to touch some of that I whould realy feel like in Star Trek if not Tom Cruise in “Minority Report“. Anyway, the technology is called multi-touch screens, developed at NYU. And if this is patented by Apple, as some say, could this lead to … a Tablet Mac? Maybe, but it doesn’t matter cauze if I can’t dream to an iMac, how can I afford to dream to an Tablet Mac? Good thing that Pandora’s box is still with us, humans, no?  :)

Meebo killer - part 2

GtalkSeems like I didn’t have to wait too long, becauze starting from this night Google Talk is integrated in Gmail and I love it. Typical for Google: easy to use, clean and simple design, full integration in Gmail and the big surprise is that he has even animated smileys. What is also great is that u can “pop-out” or “pop-in” the conversations with one contact or all the conversations. What is missing (also from the original Gtalk) is the posibility to get invisible, but since I don’t use that very ophen, it doesn’t boder me for now.

So, the whole picture related to this new feature look ok for now and I think this could atract more Gmail users into using Gtalk in the detriment of the very popular and good looking Yahoo Messenger. Of course, the kids will still love Y!M and also many of the addicted to Y!M users, but I also think that this could take another small bite from Yahoo’s pie. Bit by bit, piece by piece, Google will eventually conquer the world :)

After 2 weeks…

Yesterday I celebrated 2 weeks since my little project started, and I can tell you that for now, 90% of my visitors are direct hits. The number of uniquie hits per day is still low (around 25/day) wich gives me hope that still, from 4 milions romanian internet users (as far as I know) only few or them are misspelling wrong the word Google, or they are silly enough to think that Google is spelled gugle. Now I realize that “my fears” were without any motive and taking benefit of this method to bring visitors wasn’t a bright ideea. Let’s face it, even if we, as a people, as romanians, are not seen very well in other comunyties, many Romanian people are doing a great job here, in other countries and in internationals big companies. And I can give you for now only 2 examples: Tudor Leu and Octavian Costache (Vivi) both working now for Google. But there are many others like them here, waiting to be discovered and anctious to show to the whole world what they are capable for. We are not loosers, we are not silly and we’re for sure not stupid.

This post went to another direction so I think I should stop for now, but I will be back and the project it’s still on the run. Now I have to develop it a little bit more. Ideeas are wellcomed :)

Meebo killer

I’m using at wotk Meebo, a web messenger for Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, AOL and Jabber (or Gmail). It’s a very neat messenger and I like it a lot, although I’m not using it every time. Anyway, I’ve loged in today in my Gmail account and what do I see? Under Inbox and Starred folders, a new folder called Chats. So Google is going on web Messenger also, very soon I hope, and as one of my friend said, this is gonna be a Meebo Killer. Again, another proof of Google being evil? This could only lead to another “x vs y” kind of post, but only after I’m gonna see the new implementation of the Gtalk in Gmail.

Google vs del.icio.us

New Google toolbar is out there and one of the new features is Bookmarking. “You can create and label (you can read “tag it”) bookmarks that you can access from any computer. This feature stores your bookmarks online, so you’ll need to have a Google Account and be signed in to create and access your bookmarks”. U can also sign up for a Google Account. So, no more exclusive Gmails accounts. Too bad in a way, becauze I was feeling a little bit important with my Gmail account and the power to send invites :). What is bad about Google Toolbar? Well, for once, it is only available on Windows XP and only for IE6+. Since I’m on Linux I can’t see this new feature and even if I was on Windows I whould use Firefox to navigate, so this new feature is completlly useless.

On the other hand, my del.icio.us account is very handy for me, especially with the help of del.icio.us extension for Firefox (also available on linux) and that’s enough to say that for now del.icio.us is winning by far this competition :).

Gugle.ro in RO

Well, after a quik analisys of the kewords used for searching with Gugle.ro I decided to change the language into Romanian. All the words used until now in Gugle.ro were in romanian, so i’ts clear for now that all the visitors are from Romania.

But i’m keeping this blog in english, even if it’s a little bit hard for me to make myself clear and understandable.

Google AdWords Prevails Over Yahoo & MSN Says Survey

Google did it again. So what else is new? Anyway, after a recent survey by Outsell, the numbers showed that Google AdWords program is more effective than YPN or MSN adCenter. This could be another slap in Yahoo’s face, shortly after their defeat recognition. By the way, who does that? Who recognize the defeat when you’re on second place? You don’t give up on second place. You figt some more until you’re gonna reach your goal. I can’t see the logic of their action, but I’m a Google fan and never enjoyed Yahoo too much, so these results “pleases me” as Bisquit (from Ally mcBeal) says.

Here’s the results:
* 71% say that search marketing on Google was effective
* 62% say that Yahoo Search Marketing was effective
* 49% say MSN was effective

and here’s the source.
